The ranch is a special place for children.Horses are a part of our heritage and it is a joy to offer skills of this heritage to our children. We have found that horses enhance the lives of those who come into contact with them. It is our pleasure to be able to offer this gift to children. Working with horses teaches many skill and behaviors that prove useful later in life, as well as teaching a respect for animals and nature. The Bright Way Youth Riding Program is our way of sharing those benefits with future generations.

Our youth program is designed to teach the student a broad range of horsemanship skills, in addition to how to ride a horse. In the style of the old world horse academy, we teach the students horse care, horse psychology, grooming, tacking, and other aspects of horse keeping.

The program is built on the foundation of:
Teach well rounded horsemanship
Teach caring and respect for animals
Keep the student safe
Present the student with challenging yet attainable goals
Provide an environment where the student can build self-esteem and gain confidence

We tailor the program to meet the needs of two age groups: the Itty Bitty Riders - ages 4 to 7 years; and the Young Riders Program - ages 8 years and up.

The Itty Bitty Riders Program consists of 1/2 hour lessons. There will be an instructor and assistant (if necessary), or an assisting parent (encouraged). The lesson plan includes both ground school and horseback training. The goals of the Itty Bitty Program are described below.

Ground school:
Teach the child how to safely be around and work around a horse
How to groom a horse
How to lead a horse
How to saddle and bridle a horse, if applicable for the child

Horseback:
Begin work on balance - without reins
Grow confidence
Learn to feel and move with the horse
Seat position
Introduce reins when the student is ready

These skills are taught through various exercises and games focused on keeping the interest of the child. The pace of the program is tailored to each child's ability. The child advances at his or her own pace.
