On a beautiful day in
May, 1999, we had the opportunity to spend the day with the management team from Milgard
Windows in Hollister. Twenty employees came to the Bright Ranch for our "Leadership
through Horsepower" training. The day began with a walking tour of the Bright Ranch
and staff introductions. The morning consisted
of team games designed to emphasize interdependence within the
teams and communication. The games began with a tug-of-war between the Milgard teams and
Dennis with his horse Cap! They continued on through the cowpie tossing tournament and the
blindfold trust course relay. The morning concluded with a wild goat catching contest.
After a great lunch we introduced the Milgard teams to their horses. They learned how to
approach, halter, lead, groom, saddle, mount and dismount.
All of these skills were needed during their afternoon of
horsemanship events. They competed in barrel racing, pole bending, keyhole, flag race and
the walking race. The afternoon climaxed in a cattle working contest where the Milgard
teams had to successfully drive a herd of Texas Longhorns through an obstacle course. We
had a great time sharing our passion for horses with the Milgard Windows Leadership team
and the evening concluded with an old-fashioned ranch bar-b-que and awards ceremony.
Thanks Milgard Windows!
